I am Sumeet Grover, a UKCP and BACP registered psychotherapist, working in private practice. I offer depth psychotherapy informed by Jungian theory, Psychodynamic approach and Trauma theory. Although across this website, you will get an understanding of my clinical philosophy and how psychotherapy can be transformative for individuals and intimate relationships, a few words about my passion for this profession that I love.
Psychotherapy is always a second profession and a second career because one needs to be of a certain age, and have a substantial lived experience in order to train, but also in order to be of service to the clients by carrying a depth of lived experience – personal, social and economic.
Prior to training as a psychotherapist, I studied Japanese Buddhist philosophy for fifteen years. For my ever-
curious mind that was searching for an understanding of the depths of the human psyche, I was recommended a book on Jungian analysis, written by June Singer (Boundaries of the Soul). It is an experience I will never forget, because reading that book made me realise that this is what I would love to do.
Fast forward, I decided to undergo five years of training in depth psychotherapy, namely the transpersonal modality with an emphasis on Jungian- and psychodynamic psychotherapy. As part of this process, I went through once-weekly personal psychotherapy in order to explore and understand my own psyche in depth, so that my personal thoughts and feelings would not come in the way of being in service to my clients.
Before Psychotherapy
Being a psychotherapist is not just about the theories and the experiential training that one goes through. The human psyche exists in society, in groups of people, in family and in close relationships. And it is this experience that I as a psychotherapist bring into the therapy room in trying to understand my clients better.
My first profession was as a software engineer, having achieved an MSc in the subject, and I spent ten years working in financial services. During this time, I was also a member of a few international arts and peace organisations, where I pursued my passion for the transformative power of the arts in bringing people, cultures and countries together through music, dance, paintings, and art-making, along with a non-violent dialogue amongst people. I am still an avid lover of art, and I am multilingual. I offer psychotherapy in English, but I also speak Hindi and Dutch.
Lastly, I am a published writer, having written three books of poetry, and won one poetry prize, along with three shortlists and two longlists for my poetry.
